Brinkerhoff Secures 2019 USEPA Brownfield Grant for City of Newark, NJ

Brinkerhoff Environmental Services, Inc. (Brinkerhoff) was instrumental in securing a 2019 Brownfield grant in the amount of $800K for the City of Newark, NJ. The grant was awarded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) following a nationwide selection process.

“We are very pleased to assist the City of Newark with their many Brownfield issues. Our Newark-based staff is committed to addressing the environmental needs of the surrounding communities,” said CEO Laura Brinkerhoff.
This highly competitive USEPA grant program provides funding for testing and remediation of contaminated and underutilized properties. The grant award to Newark affirms the need to remediate properties which were formerly deemed unusable, transform communities, create jobs and promote economic redevelopment.
“The grant to remediate the 1,250-acre section of the riverfront in the North Ward will help the people of Newark unlock the value and gain access to one of our city’s treasures,” said Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka. “
U.S. Senator Cory Booker added, “This is the next step in the revitalization of my home, the City of Newark, and will transform sites along the Passaic River from dangerous eyesores to redeveloped areas that can be enjoyed for generations to come.”
